How the Crafty Chizzit came to be...

From humble beginnings to a dream wedding – how the Crafty Chizzit came to be!

Hey, I’m Charl... the Creative Director of the Crafty Chizzit – thanks for visiting our website!

I thought I’d give a short introduction as to how the Crafty Chizzit came about.

I’ve always enjoyed crafting. As a child, it was Art and Design and Sport that most interested me. I spent many rainy days (and sunny for that matter) growing up painting, drawing, model making and crafting.

When I met my husband to be, Ken, and we decided to get married, our love of music and festival going became the theme for our wedding.

With a large open ended marquee in a field, live bands, a vinyl only DJ, glamping, festival food etc. the scene was set!

I decided to take a sabbatical from work and began designing and making/building all the features that would make our wedding day individual and personal to us.

When our son Cole started school in 2020 they held a local village Snowman competition, I crafted a ‘Walters Wonderland’ scene that included a range of large reindeer (from logs and branches) and wooden snowmen - and people wanted to buy them!

Fast forward to autumn 2021, and I started making small reindeer for friends and family during evenings and weekends...

... I then created a page on Etsy and the sales started coming in thick and fast – The Crafty Chizzit was born!

Along with my amazing husband – the, now, web designer/promoter/marketing manager/dispatcher and any other job that needs doing for the Crafty Chizzit – working our 'normal' jobs, looking after our five-year old son, Cole, our Deerhound Billy and our cat Mac, we have decided to give our 'side business' a shot! So here goes... wish us luck!

Oh and I'm sure you're wondering 'Why the Crafty Chizzit?' Well, being a Leicester girl you often hear when out shopping 'ow much issit?', which sounds like 'I'm a chizzit' and, therefore, Leicesterians are often known as 'the chizzits' – hence, 'The Crafty Chizzit'!
